Kate teaches Hatha and Restorative Yoga in San Francisco, striving to cultivate students’ curiosity and kindness within their own moment to moment experience of the body and mind.
As a lifelong dancer, Kate was delighted to discover yoga’s artful methods of opening, strengthening and illuminating. Her teaching emphasizes mindfulness in movement (and stillness) to fully appreciate the therapeutic benefits of the practice.
Her study of yoga and meditation sprouted in 2000 amidst the green rice seedlings of Japan where she returned in 2007 to assist one of her primary teachers, Judith Lasater, in teaching the art of restorative yoga. She teaches on retreat with the Learning to Listen collective and is grateful for the ongoing guidance of additional main teachers Kristie Dahlia Home and Scott Blossom.
Kate specializes in kids’ yoga in addition to restorative, and her teaching is also influenced by vipassana meditation, reiki, kirtan, qi gong and Traditional Chinese Medicine in which she is currently getting her Master’s.
In asana practice, she guides awareness towards precise, intuitive alignment and conscious movement of breath and energy to deepen access to the spirit of the postures…and the spirit! Kate aims to create conditions for students to more fully inhabit their bodies, and unfurl into their own wisdom and well-being.
